Case Study: Health & Social Care Board

A Business Case was developed to support the training of 15 Health & Social Care Trust employees, delivered by an Empatheyes Eye Clinician alongside our VR Visual Impairment Simulator.

A 1-hour training session was delivered to participants consisting of a 40 minute lesson on the causes of visual impairment in adults, followed by a 20 minutes immersive learning experience using our VR technology to consolidate the information that was provided initially. Both qualitative and quantitative data to evaluate the effectiveness of the training was completed by participants.

Training outcome aligned to professional confidence measured pre/post training using a Likert scale. Participants had a high level of confidence prior to the training, but this improved overall following the training. The starting confidence level reflects the professional levels of participants (as either Team or Training leads). Further long-term data is being collated to assess long term impact on practice.

Training outcomes for sensory support professionals included:

  • Improve outcomes for professionals, enabling them to make better informed choices regarding support and implementing environmental changes
  • An average increase in confidence levels from 20% (pre) to 32% (post) training
  • Training matched (40%) or surpassed (60%) of expectation levels using VR
